Industrial equipment site access: checks before dispatch
Validating plant access means checking the entire loaded vehicle route: gate, turns, obstacles, slopes, manoeuvring area and final unloading point. A piece fitting through the gate does not prove the trailer can reach the delivery position.
1. Trace the route to the unloading point
Identify the authorised entrance, internal route, turns and unloading location. Record temporary works, parked vehicles, pipes and other obstructions. Date the survey information: site conditions can change before delivery.
2. Assess the loaded configuration
Include equipment, packaging, trailer and transport configuration. Document actual clearance and turning space. Gate width or a map screenshot alone cannot establish feasibility; critical locations need on-site verification.
3. Confirm the ground and handling area
Obtain information from the site representative about ground capacity, slopes, buried services and support restrictions. Pavement appearance is not proof of capacity. Crane position and supports require a plan validated by the responsible technical parties.
4. Define where delivery ends
Specify delivery on the trailer, at ground level or in final position. Confirm unloading availability, clear space and receiving sequence. For multiple pieces, sequence arrivals according to the handling plan.
5. Close open items before dispatch
Assign an owner and confirmation date to every restriction. Reassess feasibility if access, vehicle or equipment configuration changes. Keep the requested delivery date separate from the confirmed receiving window.
Minimum information to share with logistics
Prepare a route sketch, critical measurements, dated photographs, access hours and an open-item list. Protect internal plant information when sharing it. This checklist organises the review; it does not replace a route survey or handling plan.
Shipment checklist
- Route from entrance to unloading point
- Proposed loaded transport dimensions
- Clearances, turns, slopes and obstructions
- Validated ground and support-area information
- Unloading scope and final position
- Receiving owner and confirmed window
- Recent photos and a revision-dated sketch
- Open items assigned before dispatch
Frequently asked questions
Is measuring the gate enough?
No. Review turns, clearances, slopes, internal travel and the unloading location for the loaded configuration.
Is an access photo enough?
It provides context but does not confirm dimensions, ground capacity or handling feasibility.
When should access be checked again?
When site conditions, transport configuration or equipment change, and before dispatch if the available information is no longer current.
