Transformer transport in Mexico: information for a freight quote

A transformer transport quote needs the shipping configuration: weight, packed dimensions, separately shipped accessories, origin, destination and loading and unloading conditions. Rated power alone cannot determine the trailer or confirm the route.

1. Confirm the shipping configuration

Use the current manufacturer shipping drawing. Distinguish shipping weight from operating weight and identify which accessories, fluids and packaging are included. Equipment preparation must follow manufacturer instructions; do not assume parts can be removed to reduce height.

2. Measure the actual shipping package

Record overall packed length, width and height, including skids, bases and protrusions. List separate packages with individual weights and dimensions. Loaded transport height also depends on the selected trailer.

3. Document supports, lifting and securement

Provide available manufacturer information on support locations, centre of gravity and approved lifting and securement points. Flag missing information. Qualified parties must validate the lifting and securement plan; a photo does not prove an attachment point’s capacity.

4. Check both ends of the route

Provide exact locations and access and unloading conditions. Identify who supplies each loading or unloading operation and whether delivery ends on the trailer, at ground level or in final position. For a Mexico–US crossing, assign responsibility for documents and each transport leg.

5. Compare quotes on the same scope

Separate transport, route survey, applicable permits, handling, agreed insurance and possible waiting time. Request written assumptions and exclusions. A target date remains requested until route, authorisations, equipment availability and receiving readiness have been confirmed.

Example of a useful request

“Transformer in shipping configuration per attached drawing. Manufacturer-confirmed shipping weight and dimensions. Origin and destination identified. Separate accessories listed. Unloading still to be confirmed. Required date is a target.” This illustrates a request format, not a completed Grupo SEIS project.

Frequently asked questions

Can rated power alone support a transport quote?

Rated power helps identify the equipment but does not replace shipping weight, dimensions and configuration.

Does every transformer need an oversize permit?

Equipment type alone does not determine this. Review the loaded configuration, route and applicable requirements.

Does Grupo SEIS own the trucks?

Grupo SEIS coordinates the move and selects carriers and riggers for the shipment; supplier capacity is not presented as an owned fleet.

Review the move before committing the date.
